Child & Family Therapy

Heidi, at REFOCUS child & family therapy, is an Accredited Mental Health Social worker, who provides therapeutic services that is
client-centered and trauma-informed. That means my client is my focus, I address what your need is, and I deal with any trauma you or
your child have experienced in life. It is a mental health service for children, adolescents, women and their families.
We offer a wide range of focused psychological strategies to help you and your family on your life journey.
Heidi has worked extensively with families, assisting parents to develop strategies to meet the emotional and developmental needs of their children and helping families thrive and become vibrant.
Heidi has worked with numerous children and teenagers, helping them heal from pain, get empowered and become brave despite difficulties. We provide individual therapy to children (ages 3-12) through play therapy and other means to express their feelings in practical ways, engage in a journey to healing and feel empowered to make good choices in life.
I also provide attachment sessions between parents and children, to strengthen their relationships.

Positive Therapeutic Services was founded by Yvonne Swanton in the hope to provide individuals who had experienced significant trauma in their lives with a specialist trauma informed service that would support and guide them toward a more positive future so that they could live their best lives.
Yvonne is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and is registered with The Case Management Society of Australia and New Zealand as a Certified Practicing Case Manager. She has developed extensive experience, knowledge and skills in management and mental health fields whilst working in the corporate and health sectors. Adopting a person-centred approach in her work, Yvonne has a strong focus on establishing rapport and building the therapeutic relationship and is well respected by her peers and appreciated by her clients.
Our services include Professional Supervision to Social Workers and other Allied Health Professionals, Case Management Services and Social Work Services. Positive Therapeutic Services is experienced in assessing and treating individuals with a diagnosed mental health condition and addiction issues. We offer Medicare Rebates where eligible.

Laura is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist offering one-on-one personalised support for eating disorders and damaged relationships with food and body as well as medical nutrition therapy for a range of medical conditions. Laura also passionately provides general nutrition advice for health and wellbeing without the use of fad diets. Nutrition advice that is maintainable in the long run and bringing nutrition back to the basics is a key focus area at Nourish Your Within.
Laura founded Nourish Your Within to empower young people to create positive relationships with food and their bodies from early on in life and also heal damaged relationships for those who are currently struggling. Laura has lived experience with an eating disorder, so she truly understands that it is a difficult path to walk and why she wants to help support others and not feel alone in this journey.

What is Speech & Occupational Therapy?
Speech Therapy is a profession concerned with helping people to communicate. Speech pathology encompasses all areas of communication including speech, language, signs, symbols and gestures, reading and writing. Speech pathologists are professionals who are trained to assess, diagnose and treat people who have difficulties with communication and/or swallowing and feeding. A child would benefit from seeing a speech pathologist if he/she:
Has problems being understood by other people
Has problems understanding what people say
Has a husky voice that’s hard to hear

Occupational therapy is a client-centred health profession concerned with promoting health and well being through occupation. Paediatric occupational therapists help children develop skills in the areas of self-care, school and play, as these are seen as a child's main areas of occupation. By supporting children and enabling them to achieve their maximum potential, paediatric occupational therapists indirectly work on developing confidence, self esteem, social skills and general well being. A child would benefit from seeing an occupational therapist if he/she:
Has difficulty with pencil grip, holding and using scissors correctly, letter formation and/or letter reversals
Has difficulty with self care tasks such as, using cutlery, dressing his/herself e.g. tying shoelaces, buttons, zips), or decreased independence with toileting
Has delayed motor skills, is clumsy, or has reduced hand eye coordination
Is a fussy eater
